ACTION: Allied Communities of Tulsa Inspiring Our Neighborhoods provides All Souls’ members, together with other community activists, a vehicle for a unified, citywide voice that compels policy and business leaders to more effectively address the needs and concerns of Tulsa’s families. This organization offers a unique opportunity for All Souls to demonstrate its values and traditions of social justice and community activism, and to put them into action, impacting public policies and practices.

Our coalition is the result of a collaboration by 20+ local religious and non-profit institutions* working in concert with the Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF), a national group that assists local communities in developing citizen leadership, building relationships across traditional boundaries, and creating systemic changes in social policies and practices. We are a grass-roots organization, with local leadership mentored by a professional organizer who has almost 20 years’ experience in helping coalitions like ours develop the skills and strategies to work with our elected officials to hold them accountable to their constituency. We are political, but non-partisan; we try to work for what is in the best interest of all.

ACTION is people, working together!
In the last year, we promoted:

Candidate Accountability: Candidates for the HD75 special election were invited to a forum to address their commitment to working with ACTION Tulsa on issues related to public education and mental health services.

Education Awareness: Churches across the city shared with their congregations about challenges to public education, especially teacher pay. We delivered 1,000+ comment cards to legislators with constituents’ concerns about education.

Advocacy Conversations: Groups met with their respective City Council members regarding community policing issues. And we met with our legislators as part of the Save Our State coalition to discuss funding for education & other state services.

Over 250 people filled the gym at St Francis Xavier Church on November 6, 2016 for the Building to ACTION event. Building to ACTION recognized the new advocacy group for social justice in Tulsa, which All Souls is a member. More than 50 members from our congregation attended this historic gathering where Tulsans and families shared challenges they are facing and pledging to advocate for. There the newly founded affiliate of the Industrial Areas Foundation adopted its new name, ACTION: Allied Communities of Tulsa Inspiring Our Neighborhoods.
